Play Like a Ram

Ego vs. Play
3h - Tim
This class takes time to focus on confidence and character, on-stage and in life. Students dive into what confidence can contribute to the individual performance as well as group cohesion while creating characters that are grounded, dynamic, and interesting to watch. Students use a Murder Mystery format to learn how characters affect the story, flow, and overall play.
The stage transforms into a vibrant playground of spontaneity and boundless creativity. Unleash your inner child with high-energy warm-ups, physical play, and playful improv games that redefine quick thinking. Discover versatile characters and craft scenes that celebrate mistakes as opportunities for unparalleled creativity. Join our ensemble for an immersive experience that leaves you with a heightened sense of playfulness and a profound appreciation for the joy of improv.
This workshop creates an interactive experience where improvisers search for characters from the outside world as well as understanding the innate characters within. I’ll use theater games, acting exercises, and the Meisner technique to engage the students in character play that is grounded in process and not product.
This workshop uses three approaches to learning about character. We take a deep dive into the character within by slowing down and getting to know our personal play styles as well as idiosyncrasies. We will use a Murder Mystery experience to create larger than life characters that are grounded and teach improvisers how to be playful but relatable and engaging for the audience.

Sounds & Silence
6h - Tim
In many ways improv, as well as life, is an extensive group project. This class will focus on what is needed to benefit the entire group while maintaining individual style and passion. This class takes a moment to breathe and lets students focus on each other and the riveting potential of silence in a scene as well as creating sound effects that are dynamic and interesting to the audience. Students will develop an understanding of the format The Bat and learn what they can provide to the creative play of the group as a whole.
Filtaton
6h - Maro
As Aristotle once noted, theater is humanity celebrating the process of learning. Learning is a core element of life, and so theater provides us with an avenue to explore and learn about the world around us.
On stage, our body is our main tool, and it is essential not only to nourish it, but also train it in various ways. Through physical exercises and techniques, we can develop our body and voice to effectively communicate with the audience, universal values such as justice, the oppression of peoples by the authorities etc. Over those 6 hours, we will delve into the technique of Ancient Greek Theater. We will learn to embody the characters we portray and to connect with our audience on a deeper level. In the end, we will put all of our newfound knowledge and skills to the test by creating a show based on Aristotle's idea of "filtaton”.
